On my early days in Hamburg I had the pleasure and honor to work closely with artist Anthony McCall. He came to hmaburg to execute a light installation for the Deichtor Halle (Modern Art Museum) We worked most of the time very closely developing every detail for this installation.
“Crossing the Elbe” is an art project by the internationally renowned artist Anthony McCall. Three beams of white, parallel light connect Wilhelmsburg and the Elbe Island with the northern and southern banks of the river, Hamburg and Harburg. The starting points of the light beams are located at elevated points near or on the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, the Falckenberg Collection in Harburg, and the “Energiebunker” on the Elbe Island. Over the course of a year, the emission angles of the three light beams change monthly, ensuring that every part of Hamburg, Harburg, and the Elbe Island is symbolically included in the “transfer.”
