Since the beginning of 2021, I have been involved in the design and creation of a new neighborhood in the Bergedorf West district on the outskirts of the city of Hamburg.
Our office won the urban design competition, which was later developed by our team and two other teams of architects. The project entails the construction of over 300 residences (including affordable housing, homes for the elderly, and private ownership). Additionally, it includes plans for a medical center, a transportation hub, and commercial spaces accessible from a new plaza or central node.
The architectural ensemble of Bergedorf aims to recreate a new center around a triangular plaza, where the large urban blocks defining the new square are broken down into smaller buildings.
These buildings share a common architectural language but differentiate themselves through their facades both in color and composition.
As the design lead on this project, I was responsible for both the layout design of the various housing typologies and the facades, striving to imbue them with the character of the small new city we envisioned.
